The BioMotion Center of the Institute of Sport and Sport Science (IfSS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) conducts interdisciplinary research into movement science. In its state-of-the-art laboratories, biomechanical, physiological and cognitive processes are investigated in order to expand our understanding of human movement and performance. The aim is to develop innovative technologies and procedures that can be applied in areas such as sport, health and rehabilitation. The Center's laboratories offer a wide range of opportunities for practical research and applied science.

Students are intensively introduced to these fields of research as part of the courses. These include the advanced seminar “Theoretical Field of Natural Science”, the advanced seminar “Research Projects in the Field of Movement and Technology”, as well as the advanced seminar “3D Human Movement Science”, which is offered in cooperation with the University of Freiburg and the University of Basel. Other events include the exercise on biomechanical gait and balance analysis as well as qualification work in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. Sport Science and B.Ed. and M.Ed. Sport degree programs. Students come into direct contact with the Center's research infrastructure, either through independent projects and studies or practice-oriented seminars in the laboratory in which the measurement systems are shared. The M.Ed. Sport and M.Sc. Sport Science courses provide the basis for this practical training.
